I've always been interested in Woodrow Wilson. He talked a good game but when push came to shove, he caved. The "war to end all wars" set the stage for WWII.
It's amazing how the words of Woodrow Wilson still hold such relevance today.
As the American political machine and business industrial complex ebb and flow, we, the people, find ourselves currently in a situation not much different from the American people of a hundred years ago. Technology and the capitalism that flows from it have outstripped the moral code necessary to keep unfettered greed and its resultant mirror, poverty, at bay. President Wilson, in his Progressive campaign speeches assembled within this volume, describes his vision of how government may assist in keeping "special interests" (a term coined during Wilson's time, not ours) in check and insuring a fair America with equal access and opportunity for all.
Also, for those individuals who consider our current American experience to be unique (uniquely bad), with an inordinate divide between rich and poor and a seemingly impossible task at hand in restoring fairness to the country, this book provides a wonderful reassurance that the American people have seen dark days such as these before and we have emerged from those days a stronger, fairer, America.
